From Democracy Fighters to DDLD

Defensores de la Democracia (Democracy Fighters). Ibarra Chaoul, who is Mexican, set out to collect and preserve stories by murdered journalists in her home country, a delicate duty that no one else had attempted before at such a scale. In October, she launched Defensores de la Democracia, or “Democracy Fighters,” a living digital archive of more than twelve thousand clips by forty journalists killed in Mexico over thirty-plus years.

“Democracy Fighters” Opens in Mexico City. October 9, 2019, midday. Alejandra Ibarra Chaoul (the project’s creator), Michael Krisch (Brown’s Deputy Director) and Tim Robertson (co-founder of the design firm Good Digital Culture) spent the day in their hotel putting finishing touches on the web site and database.
